Ki-Be baseball finishes 4th at 1A state
Kiona-Benton held a 2-1 lead with two innings to go but couldn’t hold on in a 6-3 loss to Rochester in the third-fourth place game at the 1A state baseball tournamwent Saturday at Yakima County Stadium.
“We hit the ball well today. It was just one big inning (for Rochester). We made a couple big errors to keep the inning alive,” Ki-Be coach Steve Woods said. “At the end of the game, with the tying run at the plate, Nate Rossine hit a ball pretty hard to right field but it didn’t get down fast enough. The outfielder made a nice play.”
James Deaton nearly missed a home run in the sixth that would have cut the lead to 6-4, but it curled foul.
“We’re happy to walk out with a state trophy,” Woods said. “It’s a pretty big accomplishment for a team that won just three league games last year. We were right there with the best of them.”
