PREP BASEBALL: Puyallup, South Kitsap to meet for Class 4A title

Mac McCarty went 4-for-4 with two doubles and also struck out five batters in three innings of relief as South Kitsap shut out Wenatchee 10-0 in Friday’s Class 4A state semifinal to earn a spot in today’s championship at Gesa Stadium in Pasco.

McCarty also scored three runs. Hunter Riley went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs for the Wolves, who will face Puyallup at 4 p.m. today at Gesa Stadium.

Kitsap starter Logan Knowles allowed just one hit over three innings.

In the other semifinal, Puyallup starter Luke Heimlich allowed two runs on eight hits in a 3-2 complete-game victory over Woodinville. The Vikings got single runs in the second, fourth and fifth to take a 3-0 lead before the Falcons put up two runs in the bottom of the sixth. But Heimlich shut them down in the seventh to hold on for the win.

Brendan Illies and Darian Clemens each had a pair of hits for Puyallup.

CLASS 3A SEMIFINALS: Mt. Spokane’s dream of its first state championship ended with a 4-3 loss to O’Dea, which will be looking for its fourth state title over the last 10 seasons.

The Wildcats trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh and scored two runs to cut the lead to 4-3. Irish starter Ethan Clements struck out six over six innings before closer Marques Carlson pitched a scoreless ninth to get the save.

Wildcats starter Drew Rasmussen struck out seven in a complete-game effort and also drove in a pair of runs. Blake McDonald went 3-for-3 for Mt. Spokane.

Taiki Green went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs to lead Bonney Lake’s offense in a 12-3 semifinal win overShorewood.

Panthers’ starter Cory Burrill allowed just two hits over four innings and added three RBIs. Bonney Lake scored 10 runs in the bottom of the second to take a 10-3 lead.
