Baseball: Deaton helps Kiona-Benton top Warden

Kiona-Benton 13, Warden 5: James Deaton threw six strong innings, striking out 10 to lead the Bears to a victory Friday over the visiting Cougars in a Class 1A District 5 elimination game.

After taking the loss against Highland on Tuesday, Deaton bounced back to dominate Warden, despite some issues with his command.

Nate Rossine was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Kiona-Benton offense.

Connell 6, Cle Elum/ Roslyn 1: Austin Forsyth and Gage Taylor each homered, and Jess Hawk pitched a complete game to lead the host Eagles to a victory over the Warriors in a Class 1A District 5 elimination game.

Taylor hit a two-run shot and Forsyth a solo blast, while Hawk struck out six and scattered seven hits.

Zillah 9, Columbia (Burbank) 3: Josh Williams and Jake Smith combind to drive in seven runs as the Leopards (14-7) defeated the Coyotes in the semifinals of the Class 1A District 5 tournament in Burbank.

Burbank (11-11) will play Kiona-Benton (14-8) in an elimination game at 10 a.m. today at Bomber Field in Richland. The Coyotes will start sophomore right-hander A.J. Dixon.

Zillah scored five runs in the first inning, keyed by a bases-loaded double by Smith.

Tim Ellis led Burbank, going 2-for-3 with a double.
