Roundup: Kamiakin soccer locks up top seed for MCC 3A
Jason Pietrok found the net twice and assisted on a goal for Richland, leading the Bombers to a stunning 5-0 shutout over the visiting Kennewick Lions on Saturday in Mid-Columbia Conference soccer.
Richland finishes league play 5-9 in the MCC, good for third place among the 4A schools.
Kennewick drops to 7-7 in league play and will finish second among 3A teams. Kamiakin, which beat Southridge 2-1 in overtime, will take the top seed at 8-6. The Suns and Hanford both finish 6-8.

Track and field
STRANDBERG INVITATIONAL: The Kamiakin girls and Hermiston boys placed second in the team races at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley.
Kamiakin got wins from Heather Donais in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, Mirannda Shulman in the 400 (57.99) and Allison Stapleton in the long jump (16 feet, 7 inches).
Donais won the 100 hurdles in a time of 14.88, and won the 300 hurdles in 43.48 — nearly 4 seconds ahead of second-place Tori Staniszewski of Pullman.
Pasco’s Angela Cardon was a triple winner on the day, sweeping the 100 (12.22), 200 (24.73) and triple jump (38-11 1/2). Her leap in the triple jump was more than 3 feet further than Katie Havens of Lewiston, who was second.
The Hermiston boys were led by Tre Neal, who was second in the shot put (55-10), third in the discus (157-3), third in the javelin (167-1) and second in the hammer throw (163-1).
The Chiawana boys finished fourth, fueled by Joshua Wilson, who won the 100 (11.28) and 200 (22.50), and was third in the 400 (50.52). Roman Ruiz added to the haul with first-place finishes in the 300 hurdles (in a season-best 39.22) and pole vault (14-0), and a third-place finish in the shot put (52-5 1/2).
The Riverhawks also got a long jump title from Dominic Lee (20-10 1/4).
Wyatt Musser helped the Kamiakin boys to a sixth-place finish with a second-place showing in the discus (157-8), and fifth in the shot put (50-8 1/2).
The Braves also got a second-place finish by Braxton Gutierrez in the 800 (1:58.10) and the 4x400 relay team (3:28.55), on which Gutierrez ran the anchor leg.

CBC (26-10, 13-7 NWAC East) remained tied with Treasure Valley for second in the regional standings. Blue Mountain moved to 13-21, 7-13.
Trevor Oldham (Southridge) drove in two runs in the first game for Blue Mountain, and he went 2-for-5 in Game 2.

KI-BE 9-9, CONNELL 0-3: Lino Rivera had four RBIs and five hits on the day, and he allowed two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings in Game 2 to lead the host Bears (16-3-1, 8-0) past the Eagles (13-7, 6-2) for the SCAC East title.
“We knew it would be competitive going in, but after last year, when they swept us for the league title, we were hungry to get it back,” Ki-Be coach Steve Woods said.
Ki-Be, which got a six-strikeout performance from Nate Rossine in the opener, will host the No. 4 seed from the SCAC West on May 10, while Connell will host the No. 3 West seed.
Brian Hawkins went 4-for-7 on the day for the Eagles.

Kamiakin’s Ashlynn Tate won the No. 2 girls singles title at the Capital Invite in Boise.
Tate beat Samantha Webster of Bishop Kelly (Boise) 6-0, 6-1.
In the No. 3 girls singles consolation bracket, Pasco’s Camri Iverson defeated Savannah Forbes of Kamiakin 6-1, 4-6, 11-9.
In the boys No. 2 singles, Dalton Weese of Kamiakin lost his consolation semifinal match to John Jones of Fruitland (Idaho), 6-4, 4-6, 7-4.
