Mid-Columbia roundup for April 29: Walla Walla softball sweeps Chiawana
The 4A Mid-Columbia Conference softball title race is down to two teams.
With Friday’s 10-3 and 11-1 wins at Chiawana, Walla Walla (17-2, 10-1 MCC) remained tied with Richland atop the conference standings with three games to go in the regular season.
Chiawana fell to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in the MCC.
Tara Krivoshein drove in five runs on the day to lead Walla Walla, which broke open Game 2 with a five-run fourth inning.
Brandi Schoessler went the distance in the circle in Game 1, striking out six. Kamryn Coleman recorded six strikeouts when she pitched the first five innings of the nightcap.
Morgan Hirai had three hits in Game 1 for Chiawana.

KAMIAKIN 23-13, SOUTHRIDGE 5-12: The Braves (7-10, 7-4) took over sole possession of the 3A MCC lead with a sweep of the host Suns (7-8, 5-6).
Kamiakin exploded for 11 runs in the third inning of the opener, but the second game was a squeaker. The teams traded leads late, with the Braves pulling ahead for good with two runs in the eighth.
Madison Matthews had six hits and four RBIs on the day for Kamiakin, while Cassidy Rowe and Taylor Nevills combined to pitch a two-hitter in Game 1.
Southridge’s Julianne Hammond tallied three doubles and three RBIs.

Brandi Andrews also drove in five runs for Richland. She pitched in both games, finishing with eight strikeouts and one walk.

SOUTHRIDGE 5, WALLA WALLA 3 (8): After the host Blue Devils (13-6, 9-4 MCC) got a run in the fourth, the score was tied until the top of the eighth, when Lane Hailey drove in what turned out to be the winning run for the Suns (15-4, 10-3).
Walla Walla’s Dexter Aichele and Southridge’s Ryan Sanders each pitched all eight innings.
The teams will meet again at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gesa Stadium as part of the Mid-Columbia Classic, which concludes the regular season.
