Mid-Col roundup: Andrews perfect as CBC softball sweeps Yakima

Kayla Andrews threw a perfect game in the opener and finished the day with two home runs and seven RBIs on Saturday to lead Columbia Basin College to a sweep of Yakima Valley in NWAC East play in Pasco.

Andrews had six strikeouts and added a two-run homer in a 9-0 first-game win for the Hawks (12-4, 4-0 NWAC East). It was the first perfect game in CBC coach Adrian Ochoa’s six years at the helm.

“We made nine defensive plays behind her,” Ochoa said. “Not only takes good pitching, but good defense, too.”

Carlie Wyant also had a big game with a double, triple and three RBIs.

Kadi Patterson picked up the win in the second game, striking out five.

Andrews added a two-run home run in the fourth inning and drove in four runs.

Wyant and Terin Wade each drove in two runs, while Maddy Jones had two stolen bases.

“Carlie Wyant had a great day,” Ochoa said. “She made some good plays at shortstop on defense. She has been improving every day, and had a great day at the plate.”
