Hermiston girls fall to Corvallis at 5A state tourney
The Corvallis Spartans helped put away the Hermiston Bulldogs 48-40 in the Oregon 5A girls basketball quarterfinals Wednesday at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis.
The Spartans had to brush themselves off after the Bulldogs exploded for 22 points in the third quarter to take a 35-31 lead.
With four 3-pointers in the final quarter, Corvallis (21-5) gave Hermiston a taste of its own medicine, outscoring the Bulldogs 17-5.
The Spartans shot 70 percent (7-for-10) from 3-point range for the game.
Hermiston (22-4) shot its way back into the game after trailing 20-13 at halftime.
Sara Ramirez hit a pair of 3-pointers to draw the Bulldogs within four points, and after a Kynzee Padilla bucket, point guard Jansen Edmiston canned a 3-pointer to give Hermiston a 27-26 lead with 3:50 remaining in the quarter.
The Bulldogs, who will play Bend at 9 a.m. Thursday in the consolation bracket, got 13 points from Ramirez. Edmiston chipped in 12 points.
