Kamiakin wins regional gymnastics; Hanford swimmers head to state

The Kamiakin Braves won the Class 3A regional gymnastics title for the fourth consecutive year Saturday at the Mead/Mt. Spokane Gymnastics Center.

The Braves will compete in Tacoma on Friday and Saturday in search of their third consecutive Class 1A/2A/3A state team title.

Kamiakin beat Mt. Spokane by almost five points for the regional championship. Third-place Southridge was led by all-around champion Makayla Hui.

The freshman defeated Kamiakin senior Saige Polanik for the all-around title by 0.725 points. Hui will be joined at state by teammates Allison Huske (vault) and Mackinley Morgan (vault, bars, beam).

Kamiakin’s Abby Winstead won a regional title on vault, and teammate Piper Polanik was victorious on bars.

The Hanford boys tallied six new state qualifiers at the 3A district meet in Kelso. The Falcons will have eight individual swims and three relays at the state meet Feb. 19-20 in Tacoma.
