Mid-Columbia girls basketball roundup for Feb. 5: Walla Walla girls top Kamiakin
Faith Hoe hit both ends of a 1-and-1 opportunity with 2.5 seconds left on the clock as the Walla Walla Blue Devils eked out a 54-53 home win Friday over the Kamiakin Braves in the Mid-Columbia Conference regular-season finale for both teams.
“We had the ball out of bounds with 7.2 seconds left,” Wa-Hi coach Conor Fish said. “We ran a press break, and we got a foul, and Faith made both of them. It was a lot of fun. There was good energy and a great environment in the gym.”
With the loss, Kamiakin will host Southridge at 6 p.m. Monday for 1-2 seeding in the 3A district tournament.
Walla Walla will host Pasco at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a 4A district loser-out game.
Meghan Yenney led the Blue Devils with 15 points, while Hoe had 13 points, including a 9-of-10 performance from the free-throw line.
Oumou Toure led the Braves with a game-high 18 points and five steals.

CHIAWANA 68, KENNEWICK 52: The Riverhawks (18-2, 13-0) went on a 16-0 game-ending run to clinch the MCC regular-season title.
Kennewick led 48-45 with 6:30 remaining, but the score ended up tied at 52 with 4:17 to play. That’s when Chiawana’s offense revved up to finish the game.
Braydey Hodgins scored 22 points to go with 12 rebounds, and Kenedy Cartwright and Adelina Guzman each had 16 points for Chiawana, which will finish the regular season Saturday night at Richland. The Riverhawks will take the No. 1 seed into next Saturday’s Class 4A district title game.
Aspen Fiander had 17 points for Kennewick (6-13, 5-9), which will host Hanford on Tuesday in a district loser-out game.

SOUTHRIDGE 48, PASCO 38: Haley Thomas had 14 points to lead the Suns (10-9, 7-7) to a road victory over the Bulldogs, forcing Monday’s tiebreaker at Kamiakin for the No. 1 MCC 3A district seed.
Pasco, which limited the Suns to 1-for-12 shooting from 3-point range, got 15 points and 12 rebounds from sophomore Bella Gutierrez. The Bulldogs finished the regular season 4-16, 3-11.

RICHLAND 66, HANFORD 45: Gia Sorn had 17 points, and Mickala Trappett scored 12 to lead the Bombers (16-3, 11-2) to an MCC home win over the Falcons.
With Chiawana’s win over Kennewick, Richland got the No. 2 district seed and will host the Kennewick-Hanford winner next Friday in a loser-out game.
Ellie Harlow, Mikayla Mars and Emily Beattie each scored seven points for Hanford (1-19, 0-14), which went 21-of-23 from the free-throw line.
