MCC boys district basketball seeds settled
There’s no playoff seeding to sort out entering the final weekend of the Mid-Columbia Conference boys basketball season.
Richland (12-0) is the top Class 4A district seed, followed by Walla Walla (8-5), Chiawana (5-7) and Pasco (1-12).
Chiawana will host Pasco in a first-round game at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with the winner traveling to Walla Walla on Feb. 12. The winner there will advance to play at Richland on Feb. 13 for the district title.
On the 3A side, Kamiakin (9-4) is the No. 1 seed for districts. Southridge (7-6) holds the No. 2 seed, based on quality wins over No. 3 Kennewick (6-7).
Kennewick will host No. 4 Hanford (3-10) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the winner will head to Southridge on Feb. 12. That winner will move on to the Feb. 13 district championship game at Kamiakin.
The top two teams in the 4A and 3A district tournaments go to regionals the following week.
CWAC: Entering Friday night’s regular-season finales, Prosser and Ellensburg have 10-7 records in the CWAC and are tied for the No. 3 district seed.
If both teams were to remain tied after Friday night’s games — Prosser hosts Othello, and Ellensburg visits Wapato — the tiebreaker would progress to number draw because the Mustangs and Bulldogs split their season series. Prosser owns the better number and would get the No. 3 seed.
The No. 3 seed will host No. 6 at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a district loser-out game.
If Ellensburg beats No. 2 Wapato (13-4) and Prosser loses to Othello (1-16), the Mustangs would get the No. 4 seed and host No. 5 in a district loser-out game at 7 p.m. Tuesday. East Valley and Ephrata are tied for fifth at 8-9.
Grandview (6-11) fell out of playoff contention Thursday night with Ephrata’s 62-54 win over Othello. The Greyhounds will close their season Friday night at No. 1 Selah (16-1).
SCAC EAST: Connell (8-1) must win at River View (3-6) on Friday night to clinch the East’s No. 1 seed for the SCAC district tournament, which begins Tuesday.
Kiona-Benton (7-2) closes the regular season with Friday night’s home game against No. 3 Royal (5-4).
If River View upsets Connell and Kiona-Benton beats Royal, Ki-Be would take the No. 1 seed and Connell No. 2 by virtue of number draw. Columbia-Burbank (4-6) would remain the No. 4 seed, based on its two regular-season wins over River View.
The Coyotes will play at SCAC West No. 1 Zillah in the first round of districts, while Royal will visit West No. 2 La Salle.
Naches Valley (6-5 SCAC West), Cle Elum-Roslyn (5-5) and Granger (5-6) are fighting for their division’s final two district spots. The East No. 1 will host the West No. 4 in the first round, while the East No. 2 will host the West No. 3.
