Richland swim gets 6 state-qualifying times at Kentridge Invitational
Richland’s Cole Westendorf recorded two Class 4A state-qualifying times to lead the Bombers to a sixth-place finish at the Kentridge Invitational on Saturday in Federal Way.
Richland racked up six qualifying times for February’s state meet in Federal Way, and 10th-place Hanford got two.
Westendorf was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.50 seconds and third in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 54.27.
Teammates Jeff Kern and Conor McShane also earned individual state cuts. McShane placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1 minute, 1.28 seconds), while Kern was seventh in the 500 free (4:57.55).
Two of the Bombers’ three “A” relay teams qualified for state.
Westendorf, McShane, Charles Fillebrown and Scott Francis came in fourth in the 200 medley with a time of 1:43.37. In the 400 free, Westendorf, Luis Hernandez, Fillebrown and Kern took fifth (3:24.07).
Hanford’s Brady Myers was fifth in the 100 butterfly, finishing in a Class 3A state-qualifying time of 54.16. John Markillie qualified for his first state meet, placing sixth in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.65.
