Mid-Columbia roundup for Jan. 5: Kamiakin girls dominate Hanford 63-28
The Kamiakin girls basketball team might be young, but it’s at the top of the Mid-Columbia Conference standings.
Oumou Toure had 19 points and 11 rebounds, while fellow freshman Alexa Hazel scored 12 points to lead the Braves to a 63-28 road win over Hanford on Tuesday night.
Sophomore Jayden Williams finished with 12 points for Kamiakin (6-3 overall, 3-0 MCC).
The Braves entered the day tied with Walla Walla and Chiawana at 2-0 in conference play. The Chiawana boys and girls teams were scheduled to travel to Walla Walla on Tuesday night, but the games were called off because of a freezing rain advisory for the area. No makeup dates have been announced.
The Braves found their stride early against the Falcons (1-8, 0-3 MCC). They held a 17-5 lead after one quarter and were up 31-9 at halftime.
Payton Moore, Emily Beattie and MiKayla Mars each scored five points for Hanford. Moore grabbed 10 rebounds.

EPHRATA 58, OTHELLO 28: Harley Vanatta had a game-high 13 points to lead the Tigers to a road win over the Huskies in CWAC action.
Ephrata jumped out to a 24-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
“They have a lot of experience, and they worked really hard,” Othello coach Clyde Woods said of the Tigers. “They put a lot of defensive pressure on us, and we had trouble dealing with it.”
Tanaya Andersen led the Huskies (1-8 overall, 1-7 CWAC) with nine points.

Kamiakin’s Koby Bailey led all scorers with 21 points, while Isaiah Brimmer added 13 points and eight rebounds.

EVERETT CLASSIC: Pasco had two champions and one runner-up Saturday as the Bulldogs won the tournament title with 182.5 points, beating second-place Arlington by six points.
Patrick Torres (126) and Luis Velazco (152) won titles for Pasco, while Victor Ramirez was second at 113 pounds.
Anthony Torres (106), Jake Covington (145), Jose Tovar (182), Misael Estrada (195), Tony Cortez (220) and Davion Pruitt (285) all placed third for the Bulldogs, while Ismael Castaneda (106) was fifth.
