Mid-Columbia roundup for Dec. 15: Walla Walla boys top Moses Lake
The Walla Walla boys basketball team knew it would need to start strong to have a chance at beating Moses Lake on the road Tuesday night.
The Blue Devils stuck to their game plan and defeated the Chiefs 66-55 to wrap up nonconference play.
Noah Porter scored 22 points to lead the Blue Devils (3-2), who opened the game on a 6-0 run. They led 19-9 after one quarter and 35-17 at halftime.
The Chiefs had the scoring advantage in the second half (38-31), but the Blue Devils held them to 14-of-50 shooting (28 percent) for the game. Walla Walla shot 58 percent (25 of 43) from the field.
Cesar Sandoval (32 points) was Moses Lake’s only double-digit scorer. The Chiefs’ next-highest scorers each had five points.
“It was a nice defensive effort on our part,” Walla Walla coach John Golden said. “We shot the ball well. Good combination, good road win.”

Grandview beat Medical Lake 65-31 but lost to host Cheney 113-43, while Prosser went 0-2 on the day against ML (45-21) and Cheney (133-18).
Grandview’s Tavian Valenzuela (50-yard freestyle, 25.25 seconds) and Micah Binfet (100 butterfly, 1:07.72) finished first against both teams. The Greyhounds won the 200 medley relay in 2:11.79.
Prosser’s Levi Russell was victorious against Medical Lake and Cheney in the 50 free (26.02).
