Mid-Columbia roundup for Nov. 10: Kamiakin bows out of 3A state soccer tournament
HOLY NAMES 4, KAMIAKIN 0: Camille Murphy and Caroline Hennes scored two goals apiece, and the Cougars sidestepped a lot of missed chances by the Braves to earn the Class 3A state tournament win at Lampson Stadium.
Holy Names, which will visit Southridge on Saturday in the quarterfinals, led 1-0 at the half, and Kamiakin felt like they had a chance to get back in it.
“We talked about if they were going to try to slow the game down, and if we could mentally stay in our game,” Braves coach Chris Erikson said. “We talked about marking up No. 2 (Murphy) and doing different things with her to take away their strength.”
Kamiakin missed several opportunities, including several shots off the posts and a missed shot on a breakaway, any one of which could have changed the Braves’ fortunes.
“That’s kind of been the story this year. We’re inconsistent. We were really doing well. We just didn’t have a good one today,” Erikson said. “I thought (Holy Names) was a good team. They played very well together. They kind of remind me of Southridge. They knew where each other was and played the ball well to each other.”
Kamiakin goalkeeper Rachel McClure had nine saves, and Erikson said the midfield had a strong day.

Hailey Brandner gave Cascade Christian a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, a lead the Cougars held onto for the next 58 minutes before Vickerman’s goal. Jessica Garcia, Judith Artiaga and Mattie Mauseth each scored in the shootout, while Cascade Christian managed to hit just two spot kicks.
