MCC announces all-conference picks in swimming and diving, soccer, volleyball
Kennewick senior Alexis Murphy, who will compete this weekend in her fourth state meet, was named the Mid-Columbia Conference Swimmer of the Year.
Murphy won the Class 3A district title in the 100-yard butterfly and was the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke, lowering her state-qualifying time in the event. She was second team in the fly and breast.
Richland senior Kelsea Hinkley was selected as the MCC’s top diver. Hinkley won her second Class 4A district title on Halloween in Moses Lake and will enter state as the No. 2 seed.
Jason Hart (Southridge swim) and Mike Sandbeck (Southridge/Kennewick dive) were chosen as co-coaches of the year.
Richland filled nine spots on the first team, led by sophomore Claire Schaef in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Hinkley, Alyssa Musick (200 individual medley), Lauren Hall (100 butterfly) and Katie Schroder (100 breaststroke) also were first-teamers along with Kennewick’s Blair Murphy (50 free) and Walla Walla’s Paige Gardner (100 free, 100 backstroke). The Bombers took all three first-team relay slots.

Volleyball
Pasco junior outside hitter Catelyn Linke, who led the Bulldogs in kills this season, was named the MCC’s player of the year, while Kamiakin’s Morgan Schauble was voted as the top coach.
Schauble’s Braves, who finished the regular season with a 9-5 record and took second at regionals, will compete in the Class 3A state tournament starting Friday at Toyota Center. They open at 9:45 a.m. against Mercer Island.
Chiawana had three first-team players: setter Ashtin Olin, outside hitter McKaidan Moore and middle hitter Bethanie Nelson.
Linke, Kennewick libero Julisa Gonzalez, Richland setter Kamry Breard, and Kamiakin outside hitter Allison Stapleton and middle hitter Leanna Shymanski rounded out the first team.

Southridge junior midfielder Haley Thomas and Kamiakin senior defender Rachel Ensign, whose teams made the Class 3A state tournament, were picked as the MCC’s players of the year.
Southridge, Kamiakin and Class 4A state participant Chiawana each had three first-team players. Richland landed two, while Kennewick and Hanford each had one.
Kaylie Winston, whose Hanford team finished second in the MCC, was named the conference’s coach of the year.
