Mid-Columbia roundup for Oct. 24: Hanford wraps up second in MCC soccer

Taylor Matheny scored a pair of goals with assists from Dani Mendoza, and the Hanford Falcons shut out visiting Kennewick 3-0 on Saturday to claim second place in the Mid-Columbia Conference Class 3A girls soccer race.

Chelsea Marozik notched the first goal for the Falcons, who are off until Wednesday and await the winner of Monday’s Kamiakin-Kennewick match.

“Both teams played really hard, and I was proud of the way our girls battled today,” Hanford coach Kaylie Winston said. “Credit Kennewick. They’re a good, disciplined team that doesn’t give up.”

Winston added a second-place finish in the MCC didn’t come as a surprise.

“We knew we had the talent if our girls would completely buy in,” she said. “The girls have done a good job. Everyone knows their role on the team.”
