Mid-Columbia roundup for Oct. 17: Chiawana wraps up MCC’s top 4A soccer seed
The Chiawana Riverhawks have clinched the Mid-Columbia Conference’s No. 1 Class 4A seed in the girls soccer district playoffs with two games remaining in the regular season, but they know they can’t rest easy.
After Saturday’s 8-0 road victory over Walla Walla, Chiawana (8-5 overall, 7-5 MCC) wraps things up against Hanford and Richland next week.
“We’d like to finish with two wins for sure,” coach Rich Zoller said. “It’s not going to be easy. We want to go into the playoffs on a high note. We don’t want to coast. We’ve got to keep looking to get better every game.”
Braydey Hodgins poured on five goals and two assists against the Blue Devils (0-12 overall and MCC). She had three goals and an assist Tuesday against Pasco.
“Braydey’s doing a great job for us,” Zoller said. “That’s her job is to score, and she’s been doing that for us. She’s been on fire the last couple of weeks.”
Macey Morales had three assists and a goal for Chiawana, which allowed four Walla Walla shots.
Chiawana sealed the top 4A seed after Richland (4-9, 4-8) and Pasco (6-8, 4-8) lost Saturday.
“It’s awesome to close it out early, and not that we sit back now, but we can have that assurance we’re in the district title game at home,” Zoller said. “It’s real nice to have that accomplishment.”
