Thursday volleyball, soccer: Chiawana edges Pasco

Pasco won the first two sets, but host Chiawana rallied back to take the next three for a 3-2 victory in a Mid-Columbia Conference volleyball showdown on Thursday night.

“We are pretty fortunate,” Chiawana coach Jim Steach said. “It was a frustrating match to coach because of the opportunities we missed.”

McKaidan Moore led the Riverhawks (11-1) with 21 kills, while Ashtin Olin had 52 assists and Marissa Logozzo 23 digs.

“They played really well,” Pasco coach Jackie Fluaitt said of Chiawana. “They just didn’t roll over, even in the first two games. I’m proud of what we are doing. We are going to keep plugging away.”

Catelyn Linke led the Bulldogs (6-6) with 29 kills and 30 digs, while Victoria Estes had 37 digs and Nancy Gonzalez 37 assists.

KAMIAKIN 3, KENNEWICK 1: Madison Judy and Allison Stapleton each had 19 kills as visiting Kamiakin beat Kennewick in an MCC match.

Breanna Shaffer had 10 kills and 17 digs, and Julisa Gonzalez finished with 29 digs for Kennewick (1-11).

OTHELLO 2, TOPPENISH 1: Karinna Rojas scored off an assist from Kayle Martinez in the 52nd minute to help host Othello beat Toppenish in a CWAC match. Toppenish keeper Sally Meyer was impressive in net, getting 15 saves in the loss.
