Girls soccer roundup for Sept. 26: Southridge stays unbeaten in Mid-Columbia Conference

The Southridge High School girls soccer team remained undefeated in Mid-Columbia Conference play with a 2-1 victory over Kamiakin on Saturday at Lampson Stadium.

“It’s a big rivalry game for both teams,” Southridge coach Greg Sambrano said. “Both teams fought hard. Give credit to Kamiakin and coach (Chris) Erikson; she always has her team ready to play. Defensively, we did a really good job. Heather (Donais) is a very dangerous player.”

Haley Thomas had both goals for the Suns (6-0 MCC), with her second a free kick from 30 yards out that just snuck in under the crossbar.

Trailing 2-0, the Braves (4-2) got on the board in the 60th minute with a goal by sophomore Mikayla Hunter. She was among 12 Kamiakin underclassmen — eight freshmen and four sophomores — who suited up.

“I thought Southridge played very well as a team, and they connected with their passes very well,” Erikson said. “They scored in two set pieces. I thought at moments we had some great play, but we need to be more solid throughout the match.”
