Thursday local roundup: Sarver, Judy lead Kamiakin past Southridge in volleyball

Kennedy Sarver collected 31 assists and 14 digs, and Madison Judy recorded 12 kills and 11 digs as the Kamiakin Braves posted a 26-24, 25-17, 25-16 Mid-Columbia Conference volleyball victory over the host Southridge Suns on Thursday in Kennewick.

Leanna Shymanski and Allison Stapleton each chipped in eight kills for the Braves.

Riley Hebdon led Southridge with 11 kills and nine digs.

Cross country

MCC MEET: Kamiakin’s Phillip Fishburn crossed the finish line first and helped lead the Braves to a first-place boys team finish at the Mid-Columbia Conference meet at Fort Walla Walla.

Fishburn covered the 5,000 meters in 15 minutes, 58.9 seconds.

In the girls race, Walla Walla’s Erika Leinweber finished first with a time of 19:34.9. But Kamiakin, led by Lindsey Lowe’s fourth-place finish with a time of 20:11.6, won the team title.

The Murphy twins, Blair (50 free and 200 free) and Alexis (200 IM and 100 breast), each won two events and swam legs on the winning 400 free relay team for Kennewick.
