CHIAWANA 60, MEAD 54: In Pasco, the Riverhawks had four players in double-figure scoring en route to the win.

Benji Larios led the way with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Messiah Guy led the Riverhawks in scoring with 14 points, while both Jermell Heavens and Ender Douglass each scored 10 points.

KAMIAKIN 58, LEWIS & CLARK 37: Nick Malisani scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the visiting Braves to the win.

Teammate Titus Bruinsma added a double-double too for Kamiakin, with 15 points and 10 boards.

RICHLAND 98, FERRIS 55: The host Bombers began their postseason run with a trio of dominant performances.

Lance Horntvedt scored 36 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, dished off 6 assists and had 5 steals. Landen Northrop added 28 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the 3-point line, and had 7 assists; and Jackson Woodard scored 26 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and had 5 assists.

First-year school Sageview was the lone area boys team to win its District 5 Class 3A basketball tournament opener on Saturday.

The Lobos defeated Ridgeline 77-74 in overtime at home. Sageview outscored Ridgeline 12-9 in the overtime.

Rashaad Kinsey led the Lobos with 27 points, while Jordan Riggs added 22.

Now, Sageview is one win away from qualifying for the 3A state tournament, as it visits Mt. Spokane at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a semifinal game.

In other tournament news, Daniel Trotenya scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as host Kennewick was upset by University 59-56 on Saturday.

The Lions will play host to Southridge at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a loser-out game.

Olivia Mercado scored a team-high 19 points, and teammate Aryn Sloot added 11 as host Southridge held off Central Valley 53-52 in the first round of the District 5 3A girls basketball tournament on Saturday.

The win gives the Suns a shot at a state tournament berth on Tuesday, when they visit Ridgeline in a tournament semifinal game.

Hermiston also won Saturday, routing visiting Shadle Park 56-22.

Meanwhile, Rylee Bendewald had 23 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots, but it wasn’t enough as visiting Kennewick fell 59-49 to University.

Prosser’s girls basketball team clinched a state tournament berth on Monday, as the host Mustangs took down Selah 81-58.

Herbie Wright led Prosser with 30 points, while Deidra Phillips added 20 and Keelyn Cox 17.

Meanwhile, Jenna Garza scored 12 points, but it wasn’t enough, as the visiting Grandview Greyhounds lost to Ellensburg 68-46 in the other CWAC semifinal.

So Prosser will host Ellensburg on Wednesday for the district title, and Grandview visits Selah, with the winner advancing in a regional crossover with a district 1 team (and a state berth) on Feb. 21.

The Grandview and Prosser boys will try to earn state tournament berths on Tuesday when they each play Central Washington Athletic Conference 2A district tournament semifinals.

The Greyhounds will host Ellensburg, while the Mustangs visit Selah. Both games tip off at 6 p.m.

Winners advance to the district finals on Thursday, but will have already clinched 2A state berths.

Losers in the semifinals will meet Thursday, with the winner getting another chance at a state tourney berth by playing a regional crossover game on Saturday. Thursday’s loser will see its season end.
