Chiawana clinches MCC league championship. Kamiakin squeaks past Kennewick

The Chiawana Riverhawks have secured a back-to-back conference title with a sound win over Richland. Only a couple more weeks of high school football regular season remains before playoffs and the march to state titles.

Chiawana 42, Richland 13

For the second straight week, Chiawana had a statement win. And in doing so, clinched the Mid-Columbia Conference league championship. The Riverhawks broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring the game’s final 21 points to roll to a 42-13 victory at Fran Rish Stadium on Friday night.

Chiawana (7-0 MCC, 7-1 overall) forced five Richland (5-2, 5-3) turnovers, the final resulting in a fumble return for a touchdown by Landon Bolson.

Braxton Feldmann had another big game leading all rushers with 161 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns.

Jackson Woodard led the Richland offense, throwing for 241 yards on 16 of 27 passing. He had two touchdowns but also threw three interceptions.

Kamiakin 7, Kennewick 6

Latavious Medelez had an interception return for a touchdown as Kamakin (6-1, 6-2) squeaked past rival Kennewick (5-2, 6-2) 7-6 at Lampson Stadium on Friday night.

Trent Woodhouse led the Braves on 14 of 25 passing for 113 yards while Korby Hopwood added a team-high 80 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Pasco 42, Hermiston 26

The Pasco Bulldogs (1-6, 1-7) scored 28 consecutive points to pull away from Hermiston for a 42-26 win at Edgar Brown Stadium on Friday night for their first win of the season. Hermiston (0-7, 0-8) remains winless on the season.

Hermiston got off to a quick start scoring the game’s first 14 points, but a burst by Pasco in the second half put the game away.

Elijah Henderson led Pasco with 214 rushing yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns. His first touchdown of the night tied the score at 14 early in the third quarter. Quarterback Kyle Staskik led Hermiston with 197 passing yards on 18 of 29 attempts. He threw one touchdown and two interceptions.

Southridge 55, Hanford 0

Southridge (4-4, 4-4) had more than 500 yards rushing while its defense allowed just 120 yards of total offense on its way to a 55-0 win over Hanford (2-6, 2-6) on Thursday night at Lampson Stadium.

Gabe Borisch had a huge game rushing for 267 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. Tayton Jackman added three touchdowns on the ground, running for 148 yards on 16 carries.

The Suns defense had four interceptions and allowed just four first downs in the victory.

Kulisitofa Nuka led the Falcons with 32 yards rushing on 6 carries.
