Kennewick, Chiawana win again in Week 6. Next they face each other in major MCC showdown

Kennewick and Chiawana easily won their football games in Week 6.

Now they look toward each other, as the two squads battle at 7 p.m., Friday, at Edgar Brown Stadium in Pasco.

At stake is the inside track to the Mid-Columbia Conference championship.

And while that is important, both teams are starting to look to the postseason.

Unlike the last few seasons, there are no crossover regional playoff games between the MCC, Greater Spokane League and the Columbia Basin Big Nine.

What the MCC schools are looking at:

  • In Class 4A, the top two placers in the standings get berths into the Round of 32, while the third-place team gets a Tuesday play-in game against a Greater Spokane League school. It looks like Chiawana, Richland and Kamiakin may get those three spots. It just depends on what order they finish.
  • In Class 3A, the top two placers earn spots into the Round of 32 for Class 3A.

For Kennewick, no matter what happens these final three weeks, the Lions have already clinched the top MCC berth.

Southridge and Walla Walla are battling for the second berth.

Big games still to come

Friday’s Kennewick-Chiawana isn’t the only big game left in the MCC regular season.

On Oct. 25, there are two huge contests, with Chiawana visiting Richland, and Kamiakin visiting Kennewick.

And on Halloween, Oct. 31, Richland visits Kamiakin.

Last week

CHIAWANA 60, PASCO 7: Braxton Feldman had another big game for the Riverhawks, who took the Gravel Pit Bowl over the Bulldogs.

Feldman scored four touchdowns: two runs, a pick-6, and a 38-yard punt return.
