Chiawana football finishes undefeated. Other Tri-City teams also in the run for WA playoffs
Chiawana completed its run through the Mid-Columbia Conference football schedule unbeaten by beating Walla Walla 51-0 on the road Friday night.
With the win, the No. 1 Riverhawks (8-0 MCC play, 8-0 overall) open postseason play at home — Edgar Brown Stadium — against West Valley of Yakima in a Class 4A regional crossover playoff game this Friday, Nov. 4.
Kickoff is at 6 p.m., and the winner qualifies for the 4A state playoffs.
Against Wa-Hi, Chiawana quarterback DJ Duran was 9 for 13 for 178 yards and four touchdown passes.
Two of those TD passes went to Kade Smith, while Hunter Azure-Pryce caught another and had 3 receptions for 83 yards.
Ian Mohl led the Riverhawks running game, carrying the ball 7 times for 83 yards and two scores.
As a defense, Chiawana held Walla Walla to just 85 total offensive yards.
The Blue Devils will end their season this Thursday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. at home against Eisenhower in a non-league game.
Highlights
▪ Kennewick beat Hermiston 34-12 on Friday night, clinching the top MCC 3A seed for this week’s Round of 32.
That earns the Lions a home game, at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lampson Stadium, against Auburn Mountainview. The winner will advance to the state 3A playoffs.
Against the visiting Bulldogs, sophomore Alex Roberts rushed for 152 yards on 24 carries, and caught 2 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown for the Lions.
Teammate Ambrose Driver was 10 of 17 for 141 yards and two TD passes.
Hermiston will host Cheney at 6 p.m. Friday in a non-league game.
▪ Meanwhile, Kamiakin finished tied for second with Kennewick in the standings, each with 6-2 conference records.
The Braves beat Pasco 42-7 on Friday at Edgar Brown Stadium.
Devin Crow and Fabian Hernandez each scored two touchdowns en route to the victory.
Kamiakin heads to Central Valley — the Greater Spokane League’s No. 2 team — at 6 p.m., Friday, in a regional playoff game. The winner qualifies for the 4A state football playoffs.
Pasco will finish its season with a non-league contest at Ridgeline in Spokane at 7 p.m. Friday.
▪ Southridge finished the regular season strong on Thursday by handling visiting Hanford 42-0.
Lucien Cone once again led the way, rushing 11 times for 163 yards and scoring the Suns’ first four touchdowns.
Jimmy Rush added 126 yards rushing on 22 carries, with a touchdown, to help Southridge compile 453 total yards of offense.
Southridge’s defense held Hanford to just 100 yards of total offense.
The Suns qualify for the Class 3A Round of 32 this week, visiting Auburn at 7 p.m. Friday for a chance to get into the state playoffs.
Kevin Hester led Hanford with 54 yards rushing on 13 carries.
The Falcons will play Lewis & Clark at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, in a Class 4A regional play-in game at Union Stadium in Spokane.
The winner will play at Sunnyside at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, for a chance to qualify for the 4A state playoffs.
▪ Visiting Mountain View of Vancouver scored two touchdowns in the final 5 minutes to beat Richland 45-44 in a non-league game Friday night.
Richland QB Josh Woodard had another outstanding game for the Bombers, going 17 for 27 for 369 yards and four TD passes. He also rushed for another score.
Seth Shook was the main recipient of Woodard’s passes, catching 6 of them for 208 yards and three scores — including one of 86 and 83 yards.
Brody Bocek caught another TD pass, and had 2 catches for 56 yards.
Kelani Steward rushed for a TD, and he led the defense with 14 tackles (one for loss).
As the MCC’s No. 3 seed for Class 4A, the Bombers will play at Eastmont at 7 p.m. on Friday in a regional crossover playoff game.
The winner will qualify for the 4A state playoffs.
