Regional football | Othello takes inside track to CWAC lead. Royal tops SCAC East

Othello’s Sonny Asu scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter, and the host Huskies never trailed on Friday night’s 28-17 football victory over the Prosser Mustangs.

Alex Mendez added two rushing touchdowns for Othello, which sits atop the 2A Central Washington Athletic Conference standings.

Prosser quarterback Kory McClure led the way for the Mustangs, tossing two touchdown passes.

Prosser next plays host to East Valley of Yakima at 7 p.m. Thursday at Art Fiker Stadium.

The Red Devils are undefeated so far this season.

The Royal Knights totaled 550 offensive yards last Thursday en route to a 63-6 win at Kiona-Benton.

Dylan Allred led the way, going 13-for-14 for 275 passing yards, four touchdown passes, and a rushing TD.

Kaleb Hernandez added 142 yards rushing on just 11 carries, scoring three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, College Place held off Wahluke 21-14 on the road Friday night.

Nick Josifek was 12 for 27 for 222 yards passing and two TD’s for the Hawks, while teammate Michael Woolpert caught 7 of Josifek’s passes for 129 yards and those two TDs.

And Connell fell 27-0 on the road at Toppenish in an SCAC non-league crossover game. Adrian Magana led the way for the Eagles, rushing 14 times for 83 yards.

Connell is just 1-5 overall. However, the Eagles are 1-0 in SCAC East play.

Columbia-Burbank and River View continue to keep pace with each other in the 2B Eastern Washington Athletic Conference’s East Division.

Burbank routed Warden 56-0 on the road Friday, as Michael Lenke went 6 for 8 for 113 yards passing, throwing four TD passes, and scoring one himself.

Shaunathan Wilder also had a good game, rushing six times for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Wilder also caught a pass for a 28-yard score.

Tristan Frimodt added 2 catches for 41 yards. Both were for touchdowns.

Meanwhile, River View also keeps pace — as both the Panthers and Coyotes sit atop the standings.

On Friday, in a 47-7 win over Tri-Cities Prep, Miguel Farias rushed for 138 yards, scored three touchdowns, and had 12 tackles on defense for River View.

Ajani Fornos added 156 yards passing, two TD passes, rushed 8 times for 66 more yards, and scored a TD himself.

Cody Brown had 4 catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Brown also had 5 tackles and an interception.

Liberty Christian maintains its lead atop the Southeast B-8 standings after finishing its seven-day gauntlet of three football games.

The Richland school beat Garfield-Palouse 62-6 on Saturday, Oct. 1; then beat Tesla-Rosalia 74-8 in a game that had to be rescheduled from a few weeks ago because T-R didn’t have enough healthy or eligible players.

Finally, the Patriots finished the run last Friday by beating St. John-Endicott/Lacrosse 66-16.

LC now faces a top three team in the conference this Friday with a 7 p.m. road game against Sunnyside Christian.

Sunnyside continued its unbeaten Big Nine Conference run on Friday by taking down Eisenhower 34-14.

Brent Maldonado passed for 359 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Grizzlies, who after an 0-3 non-conference start are 3-0 in Big Nine play.

Noah McNair and Jade Sanchez each caught two TD passes for Sunnyside.

The Big Nine game of the year is this coming Friday, when Sunnyside visits Moses Lake (also 3-0 in league play).
