As high school spring sports continue with the playoffs, here’s a quick synopsis of some of the team sports for squads in the Mid-Columbia Conference:

4A baseball

Richland visits Kamiakin at 1 p.m., Saturday at LaPierre Field. Both teams have qualified for the state tournament, but this is for the district 8 title.

Hanford visits Chiawana at 4 p.m., Friday, in a loser-out game. Winner moves to Gonzaga Prep on Saturday and will battle for the district’s remaining state berth with either Central Valley or Gonzaga Prep.

3A baseball

Walla Walla will play Kennewick for the district title Saturday. This game will be at 1 p.m. at Pasco High School, since Roy Johnson Field still cannot host games until the right field light standard gets repaired. Both MCC teams have already qualified for the 3A state tournament.

Meanwhile, Southridge is still alive for the third and final state berth, and the Suns visit top-seeded University at noon Saturday in a loser-out game. If Southridge can win that, it has to beat either Mead or Mt. Spokane at 2 p.m. for the state berth.”

4A boys soccer

Pasco has already qualified for the state tournament, and was to play Lewis & Clark (also qualified for state) for the district title on Thursday.

Meanwhile, one of four teams — Central Valley, Chiawana, Gonzaga Prep or Richland — have a shot of the remaining available state berth.

3A boys soccer

North Central and Mead have already garnered two of the district’s three available state berths.

Kennewick and Southridge are still alive for the final state berth.

4A softball

District play begins this weekend — although there is a Hanford vs. Lewis & Clark, loser-out, play-in game Thursday. On Saturday at Richland High, Kamiakin plays Central Valley at noon. The winner of that plays Richland at 2 p.m.

The Hanford/LC winner takes on Chiawana at noon Saturday at Gonzaga Prep. The winner of that plays G-Prep. The tournament continues next weekend. Three berths to state are up for grabs.

3A softball

The tournament begins with the first round on Saturday: Mead is at Hermiston, Kennewick visits Mt. Spokane, and Cheney is at Walla Walla. All games are 1 p.m. start times. The tournament resumes Wednesday, and the top three placers qualify for state.

3A-4A track and field

Everyone meets at Hermiston Friday and Saturday for the MCC Championships. The following weekend, everyone heads to Spokane for the regionals meet.
