Pasco, Prosser girls finish third; Kamiakin boys fourth; Warden girls win 2B state title

Junior Leanna Lepe scored 19 points and senior Taija Mackey added 12 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocked shots as Pasco defeated Eastlake 56-52 in the third-place game at the 4A girls state high school basketball tournament Saturday in the Tacoma Dome.

The Bulldogs finished with a 24-2 record and a third-place state finish.

It was highest finish in state for the Bulldogs since 1978, when Pasco placed second.

Woodinville ended up winning the 4A state title Saturday, beating Sumner 65-63.

CAMAS 49, RICHLAND 45: The Bombers ended up finishing sixth, losing to the Papermakers in the Tacoma Dome.

Sophomore Macie Milam led Richland — which finished 18-7 — with 19 points.

Junior Kylee Fox added 15 points for the Bombers.

Camas, which finished fourth, outrebounded Richland 45-26.

4A boys

KAMIAKIN 84, TAHOMA 62: The Braves outrebounded the Bears 46-19 to finish fourth in the Tacoma Dome.

Kamiakin (21-5) had lost to Tahoma 54-51 in 4A regionals at Richland High School on Feb. 26.

Senior Tyler Bilodeau, who will play at Oregon State University in the fall, led the Braves with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Teammate Trey Arland, also a senior, ended up with 21 points and 7 rebounds.

With that many rebounds, Kamiakin outscored Tahoma 21-3 in second chance points.

Curtis of Tacoma edged Mount Si 52-49 in overtime to earn the 4A boys state title.

2A girls

PROSSER 54, W.F. WEST 42: Senior Malia Cortes and Halle Wright helped the Mustangs finish strong with a win over the Chehalis school in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Cortes scored a team-high 13 points for Prosser, which placed third with a 21-7 record.

Wright, who is headed to Idaho State to play for the women’s basketball team in the fall, finished her prep career with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Mustangs put the game away with a 23-8 third quarter.

Prosser’s conference rival, Ellensburg, defeated Burlington-Edison 52-32 to win the state title.

2B boys

COLFAX 80, COLUMBIA-BURBANK 45: The Coyotes finished sixth in Spokane with the loss.

It was the program’s highest-ever state placing.

Freshman Quincy Scott led Burbank with 10 points, while junior Michael Lenke added 9 points and 5 rebounds.

Burbank, which finished with a 24-3 record, returns all but one player next season.

In the 1A championship, Liberty of Spangle beat Brewster 63-55.

2B girls

WARDEN 70, COLFAX 55: The Cougars won their first-ever state basketball title, and finished with a 26-2 record.

Warden, which finished the season at 26-2, had four players scored in double figures to easily win the game.

Senior Jaryn Madsen led the way with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Kiana Rios added 16 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.

Lauryn Madsen had 13 points and 6 steals, while Quinn Erdmann added 13 points and 5 rebounds.

Warden used a 24-9 second quarter to take control of the game. The Cougars outrebounded the Bulldogs 46-37, outscored Colfax 30-18 in the paint, and beat them 19-7 in second-chance point.

1B girls

SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN 44, NORTHWEST YESHIVA 38: Cole Wagenaar scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead SSC to a third-place finish in Spokane.

The Knights won the rebounding battle 47-26. Dash Bosma added 10 points and 8 rebounds for SSC, which finished 20-7.

Cusick won the state 1B title, beating Almira Coulee Hartline 61-48.

Notes

Auburn rolled past Rainier Beach 58-48 to win the 3A state title. … Garfield edged Lake Washington 39-38 to win the 3A girls state championship. … Lynden rolled past Pullman 51-34 to win the 2A boys state title in Yakima. … Lynden Christian won both the boys and girls 1A state titles in Yakima. The boys defeated King’s 61-58 for the boys crown, while the girls beat Nooksack Valley 57-56 in overtime for the girls championship. … Mount Vernon Christian hung on to beat Neah Bay 37-33 to win the 1B girls state title in Spokane.
