Chiawana’s double-digit tackler lands an Air Force offer. So does a Richland High junior
Chiawana junior Cameron Breier has received his first college football offer this week, this one coming from the Air Force Academy.
Breier has played on both sides of the ball for the Riverhawks. But he’s made his mark defensively as a linebacker.
His speed on the outside has resulted in a number of quarterback sacks, and that includes his sophomore season.
Breier is one of those guys that usually ends up with double digits in tackles.
Breier was a member of Chiawana’s 4x400 track relay team last spring that had the fastest time in the state. Only a dropped baton during regionals kept the squad from advancing to state.
But it was track that brought Breier to Colorado Springs in February, where he competed in The Air Force High School Indoor Open on Feb. 1.
His 49.24 seconds time in the 400 meters opened some eyes among coaches at Air Force.
That opened the door about football, and thus the offer.
There will be more to come.
• Meanwhile, Richland junior Ben Fewel has been getting a number of football offers, including one from Air Force.
Fewel led the Mid-Columbia Conference in all major receiving categories last season — 89 receptions, 1,236 yards, and 13 touchdown receptions.
Besides Air Force, Fewel has received offers from Army, Bucknell, Cornell and Georgetown.
Cornell would be an intriguing signing because Chiawana grad Caleb Weber is a sophomore linebacker there.
