Grandview girls roll to big win over Ellensburg
Michelle Ruiz poured in a game-high 28 points to lead Grandview to a 71-49 CWAC home win Tuesday over Ellensburg.
Tied at 9-all after the first quarter, the Greyhounds (5-9, 4-8 CWAC) went on a 49-28 run over the next two quarters to pull away.
“After a sluggish start we scored 49 points in the middle two quarters, which was fueled by our defense,” Grandview coach Glenn Braman said. “The press got us going and shots started falling. We moved the ball as good as we have all year, and the scoring opportunities were much more plentiful for everyone.”
Ruiz also had four steals and five assists, while Grace Meza added 16 points and four steals, and Bailey Duis eight rebounds.
“Tonight was the first time all year that everyone scored, everyone rebounded, and our defensive intensity was where we needed it to be,” Braman said.
Kalli Fahey led Ellensburg (6-9, 5-8) with 16 points.
WALLA WALLA VALLEY ACADEMY 42, LIBERTY CHRISTIAN 40: The Knights went on a 15-7 run in the fourth quarter to rally for an EWAC road victory over the Patriots.
Maddie Godwin led LC with a game-high 26 points.
Willa King had 21 points to lead WWVA.
Boys basketball
EISENHOWER 81, KENNEWICK 68: Efrain Araujo scored a game-high 32 points, including 24 in the first half, to lead the Cadets to a nonleague home win over the Lions.
Kennewick trailed 50-30 at the half, then outscored Ike 38-31 in the second half, but could not make up the difference.
Isaiah Mendoza led the Lions with 20 points, while Jenner Norwood added 18 — 16 of which came in the second half.
LIBERTY CHRISTIAN 55, WALLA WALLA VALLEY ACADEMY 39: Stephen Carter led a balanced attack with 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the Patriots to an EWAC win over the Knights in Richland.
Grant McClure added nine points, with Nico Shuoe and Riley Sullivan chipping in eight points each.
WWVA was led by Henry Clancy with nine points.
Wrestling
The Othello wrestling team improved to 5-1 in the CWAC standings with a 49-22 road victory over Prosser.
The Huskies got pins from Chris Melo (113 pounds), Jaxon Rocha (126), Jeremy Mendez (138) and Nick Alvarez (195).
The Mustangs got wins from Jacob Torres (120), Jorge Uribe (145) and Logan Candanoza (160), and each team hand a handful of forfeits.

PASCO 4, RICHLAND 0: Brandy Castaneda rolled games of 172 and 168 to lead the Bulldogs to a Mid-Columbia Conference win over the Bombers at Atomic Lanes.
Libby Bowles led Richland with a 164 in the first game. Hailey Zilch had a team-high 159 in the second game.
HANFORD 2, CHIAWANA 2: The Falcons won the first game and the second baker game to split with the Riverhawks at Go Bowl in Pasco.
Tied at 2-2, Hanford took the MCC win by virtue of pin count 1968-1893.
Kylee Horner led the Falcons with games of 182 and 199, with Emily Goodnight added a 189 in the first game.
Ziera Barrios led Chiawana with scores of 178 and 195.
Gymnastics
Abby Winstead won the all-round title with a score of 33.675 to help Kamiakin to a 160.725-150.375 victory over Southridge.
Winstead also won the beam (9.125) and the floor exercise (7.75).
Southridge’s Allison Huske won the vault (9.0), while Kamiakin’s Sophia Mancinelli took top honors on the bars (9.4)
