Mid-Columbia: Chase rallies Connell, can’t complete comeback against Zillah

Silas Chase hit a pair of 3 pointers in the final 2 minutes to score a game-high 22 points, but the Connell High School basketball team couldn’t come all the way back against the visiting Zillah Leopards on Thursday, falling 67-66 in a nonleague game.

Zillah led 56-46 after the third quarter, and was able to hold off Connell — which fell to 3-0 — with a late, game-winning field goal by Antonio Salinas, who had 14 points. Sebastian Godina led the Leopards (2-0) with 18 points and Brock Ellis added 17.

Nolan Chase (13), Ridge Pauley (11) and James Colclasure (11) also scored in double digits for Connell (0-3).

WRESTLING

CHIAWANA 37, SOUTHRIDGE 22: The Riverhawks open their Mid-Columbia Conference season with a home win over the Suns.

Chiawana had two pins on the night, and took advantage of a forfeit to stay one step ahead of the Southridge, which tied the score at 16-all with a major decision by Atsamav Pliev at 220 pounds.

The Riverhawks pulled away from there, winning five of the next seven matches.

HANFORD 67, KENNEWICK 9: The Falcons posted eight pins on the night, including two of 48 seconds, in an MCC dual victory over the visiting Lions.

Treyton Keller (152) and Cley Green (145) each pinned their opponent in 48 seconds, while Glenn Siekawitch (120) also had a first-round pin.

Kennewick’s Emilio Ramos beat Michael Bishop 8-1 at 160, while the Lions’ remaining points came from Greg Slutskiy, who pinned Angel Campos at 285.

OTHELLO 75, EAST VALLEY (YAKIMA) 3: Chris Melo pinned Dylan Bangs at 3:19 in the 113-pound match to move to 5-0 on the season and lead a rout for the host Huskies in a CWAC dual.

Isaiah Munguia (120), Nich Alvarez (195), DJ Guzman (220) and Isaiah Perez (285) also earned pins for Othello.

PROSSER 42, ELLENSBURG 28: Jorge Uribe (152), Matt Hudak (138), Kameron Merrick (132) and Diego Contreras (106) pinned their opponents to help the host Mustangs win the CWAC dual.

BOWLING

CHIAWANA 3, KENNEWICK 1: Caitlynne Burke rolled a 185 in the second scratch game to help the host Riverhawks to an MCC win.

Viviana Miranda had match-high 188 for Kennewick. It was a tight contest, as Chiawana won the pin count 1,872-1,761.

HANFORD 4, RICHLAND 0: Sara Harris rolled a match-high 246 to lead the Falcons past the Bombers in MCC action.

Kylee Horner rolled scratch games of 179 and 171 to help pace the sweep for Hanford.

PASCO 4, WALLA WALLA 0: Brandy Castaneda scored a 204 in the second scratch game to help the host Bulldogs sweep the Blue Devils in an MCC match.

Cecilia Chantel led Walla Walla with games of 189 and 178. Dani Leal and Balle Bach each rolled a 179 for Pasco.

SELAH 4, CONELL 0: Lexi Olsen rolled a 160 scratch game, but the host Eagles were swept and lost the total pin count 1,706-1,358.

Gymnastics

Southridge’s Makayla Hui won the all-around title Wednesday in an MCC match with the Braves. Hui also placed first in the bars.

Kamiakin’s Abby Winstead was second in the all-around and vault, and first on the floor, while teammate Samantha Harper was tops in the vault and beam.
