Prep roundup: Hermiston shuts out Lewiston for 26-0 win

HERMISTON 26, LEWISTON 0: Andrew James combined for 307 yards of rushing and passing, and the Hermiston defense caused five turnovers to shut out Lewiston on Friday night.

Jonathan Hinkle carried the ball 14 times for 121 yards and scored touchdowns of 4 and 9 yards to give Hermiston (1-1) a 20-0 lead at halftime. Dayshawn Neal capped the scoring in the third quarter with a 65-yard touchdown reception, from James, and caught eight balls for 107 yards on the night.

Joey Gutierrez intercepted Lewiston quarterback Tyson Wallace twice.

TRI-CITIES PREP 42, LYLE/WISHRAM 8: Quarterback Kobe Singleton scored three times on the ground and threw one touchdown pass as TCP steamrolled the host Cougars on Friday night.

TCP (2-0) kept Lyle/Wishram off the board until the fourth quarter, and allowed the Cougars to pick up just three first downs.

Zerek Baker gained 191 yards from scrimmage on 14 touches, and caught Singleton’s TD pass — 64 yards to open the scoring — and scampered in from 19 yards out in the third. Paced by Bubba Valencia’s 112 yards on 18 carries, the Jaguars racked up 318 yards on the ground.

CAPITAL INVITE: Caleb Olson ran the fastest time of the meet — winning the 2.23-mile boys junior race in 11 minutes, 31.6 seconds — and Grace Arnold (14:27.5), Kathryn Bushman (14:35.55) and Megan Wright (15:02.97) finished 1-2-5 in the girls junior race to lead the Hanford Falcons on Saturday at Capital High School in Olympia.

Amber Skouson (15:16.78, 6th) and Kristin Pilgrim (15:28.32, 9th) finished in the top 10 of the girls senior race, and Kenneth Taylor (13:11.05) took fourth against the freshman boys.
