While the Richland Bombers lost a little traction in the high school state football rankings this week, Kamiakin gained some ground.

Richland slipped from second to third in The Associated Press Class 4A poll, released Wednesday.

Though Richland routed Hanford 49-7 in its regular-season finale, it was not enough to hold down the No. 2 spot. The Bombers dropped behind Sumner, while fellow 9-0 team Camas remained at No. 1.

Chiawana (8-1) inched up a spot to seventh after its 14-12 win at Walla Walla.

In The Seattle Times 4A power rankings, Chiawana went up a spot to No. 9. Richland held at No. 2.

In 4A state play-in games Friday night, Richland will host Central Valley, and Chiawana is at Gonzaga Prep.

Kamiakin (7-2) moved up a spot to No. 4 in the AP 3A poll and two spots to No. 5 in the Times rankings. The Braves, who last week beat Southridge 50-10 for the Mid-Columbia Conference’s top 3A seed, will host Evergreen-Vancouver in a state play-in game Saturday.

Meanwhile, 2A Prosser (8-1) hung tough at No. 5 in the AP poll and at No. 6 in the Times rankings after handing Othello its first CWAC loss of the season.

The top of the 1A AP poll was unchanged with Royal (9-0) leading the way, followed by Mount Baker (9-0) and Connell (8-1).

Dayton-Waitsburg (8-1) rose a spot to No. 8 in the 2B AP rankings. D-W will face No. 9 Tonasket on Friday.
