Tri-Cities Athlete of the Week: Jonah Franco, Kamiakin cross country

Franco, a junior, finished third at the Greater Spokane League/Mid-Columbia Conference Class 3A championships Saturday at Mead High School in Spokane.

Franco’s time of 15 minutes, 56 seconds on the 5,000-meter course was just 2 seconds slower than winner Jacob Christner of North Central and runner-up Hayden Dressel of Mt. Spokane.

The Braves took second to North Central in the team standings, securing their spot in Thursday’s “glue” meet with the SeaKing District 2 schools in Seattle. The top seven teams will advance to state, plus individuals finishing in the top 49.
