Pasco’s Martinez advances to PNW Junior Girls' golf championship
Pasco’s Jalayne Martinez won two matches Wednesday, including a quarterfinal against Richland’s Danika Palm, to advance to today’s final at the 60th Pacific Northwest Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship in Nampa, Idaho.
Martinez, the No. 4 seed in match play, opened the day at RedHawk Golf Course with a 6-and-4 victory over the fifth-seeded Palm. She then knocked off No. 1 seed Ashley Fitzgibbons of Sammamish 2 and 1 in an afternoon semifinal. Fitzgibbons was the medalist in stroke play.
Martinez’s opponent in the final will be Kelly Hooper of Spokane. They will tee off at 6:30 a.m. PDT.
Arneson, who lives in Lynden, began the day with a 6-and-4 victory over Seattle’s Blake Cooper. He went on to face Sam Tidd, and the Meridian, Idaho, golfer won 4-3.
Nick Yamauchi of Richland fell to Bellingham’s Nicholas Nolan 7 and 6 in the Round of 32.
