Hattori challenges for Inland Empire golf title in Spokane

Evan Hattori of Richland shot 2-over 73 to tie for fourth place at the Inland Empire tournament Monday in Spokane, leading the Bombers to a tie for second place with 315 strokes, just one stroke behind Gonzaga Prep (314).

Kamiakin, led by Bolton Dauenhauer’s sixth-place finish at 74, took eighth with 330 strokes.

Richland had three players at 79 or better to put the title within reach. The Bombers’ Carl Underwood was the only other Mid-Columbia Conference player in the top 10, tying for ninth with a 76.

CWJGA Eastern Open: Pasco’s Jalayne Martinez fired a two-round total of 141, shooting a 69 and then par-72, to finish first in the Girls 16-17 division at the Washington Junior Golf Association’s Eastern Open on Sunday at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Martinez has also been named to the North Pacific Junior Ladies team, which will play matches against teams from Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia on May 23-23 at The Home Course in DuPont. Kennewick’s Angela Park won the girls 8-11 division, shooting a one-round score of 92.
