Yamauchi wins WJGA District 4 title
Nick Yamauchi of Richland won the boys 14-15 age group at the Washington Junior Golf Association District 4 tournament at Suncadia Resort, scoring the two best rounds of the tournament to card a 152.
Yamauchi, who closed with a 74, held off Dylan Apodaca (158) and Holden Backes (158), who finished six strokes off the pace.
Jalayne Martinez of Pasco won the girls 16-17 division, turning in a 155 over two days. Martinez opened the tournament with a 78 on Monday and did one better in her final round with a 77 to capture the only qualifying spot to the state tournament.
Aaron Whalen won the boys 16-17 division with a 1-over 145 to pace seven state qualifiers. In the boys 12-13 age group, Dylan Bissell carded a 155 to lead two other state qualifiers.
Haley Greb (165) topped Samantha Hui (170) in the girls 14-15 age group but both earned state spots.
In the girls 12-13 division, Therese Warner (167) topped Cassie Kim (170) to earn trips to state, and Jillian Hui (115) earned a state berth with a win in the girls 8-11 age group.
