Basketball
Talked to Chiawana senior Kobe Young for a podcast last week — it should be up this week on ParkerHodge.com.
But the senior was headed to the Phoenix area last weekend to play for the 17-Under Washington Supreme AAU basketball team in the Arizona End of Summer Showcase, a tournament that gives college coaches a chance to scout talent.
Among team members are O’Dea’s John Cristofilis and Mt. Spokane’s Tyson Degenhart.
Cristofilis has offers to play at Washington State University, Washington and Oregon State, among others; while Degenhart has verbally committed to Boise State next year.
The Supreme, coached by Skagit Valley Communuty College coach Carl Howell, went 4-0 this past weekend.
The 6-foot-6 Young has a number of options post-high school.
He’s received NCAA Division I basketball offers so far from Idaho State and UC San Diego. The wide receiver (who will also likely see action at safety for the Riverhawks) also received a D-I offer from Army West Point and a D-2 offer from Central Washington University to play football.
