WSU football fans strike gold for 2016 season

The Pac-12 Conference released its 2016 football schedule Tuesday, and Washington State will play seven home games at Martin Stadium, including the Apple Cup.

Washington, meanwhile, also will host seven games at Husky Stadium, including Rutgers, Idaho and Portland State to open the season.

“For the first time since 1999, the Cougars will play seven home games in Martin Stadium,” WSU Director of Athletics Bill Moos said in a WSU release. “Coming off our second bowl game in three years, I anticipate capacity crowds watching the Cougars play some of the top teams in the country.”

The Cougars open Saturday, Sept. 3, against Eastern Washington, an opponent they defeated 24-20 in 2012 in the first home game under coach Mike Leach.

WSU travels to Boise State on Sept. 10, its first game with the Broncos since 2001. The Cougars are 4-0 all-time against Boise State.

Neighborhood rival Idaho makes the short trip to Pullman on Sept. 17. The Cougars posted a 42-0 victory over the Vandals in 2013 and own an all-time record of 71-17-3 over Idaho.

Washington will play two Friday games, including the Apple Cup on Nov. 25. The other Friday game is at home against Stanford on Sept. 30.

Kickoff times will be announced at a later date.
