JC FOOTBALL: Columbia Basin wins again
Sean Phenneger had three interceptions, Danny Engel had two sacks and a short fumble return for a touchdown, and the Columbia Basin Junior College defense slammed the door on the Kitsap Peninsula Warhawks in the Gladiators’ 27-0 win Saturday at Silverdale Stadium in Bremerton.
It was the second shutout win for the Gladiators in as many weeks in the young Northwest Junior College Football League season.
CBJC took advantage of seven turnovers, including a pair of interceptions by Angel Garcia and another by Extacy Wornell. The Gladiators also had six sacks — two each by Engel and Ethan Morgan, one apiece for Dale Entel and Jorden Upton.
Meanwhile, the offense took advantage of a couple of big-play scores: Bobby Adam’s 34-yard run and a 45-yard hookup between Tyrell McGee and QB Rodney Bryant, who overcame three interceptions of his own to throw for 240 yards. McGee was his No. 1 target, catching six passes for 158 yards.
CBJC is back home at Lampson Stadium this Saturday for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Everett Red Raiders. It will be the Gladiators’ last home game for nearly a month.
