Roundup: CBC baseball sweeps past Wenatchee Valley
Colton Kelly hit for the cycle on the day, driving in four runs and scoring four more, and Columbia Basin College swept Wenatchee Valley 9-4 and 12-5 on Wednesday in NWAC East baseball.
The offense came early and often for the Hawks (22-8, 9-5), who hung an eight-spot on the board in the bottom of the first in the opener. Kelly, who led off with a walk, tripled in two runs on his second trip to the plate in the inning. Anthony Gosline had a two-run single in the frame.
Kelly homered in the second game, and Logan Green had four hits, scored three runs and stole four bases. Brendan McClary drove in three runs.
Spencer Bennion (Chiawana) had a big day for CBC, going 5-for-9 with a double and an RBI for the Hawks, who piled up 31 hits against the Knights (3-23, 1-13).

PASCO 1, KENNEWICK 0: Edwin Aquino scored two minutes into the second half off a feed from Sergio Avalos, and the Bulldogs notched a Mid-Columbia Conference win over the Lions.
Pasco outshot Kennewick 14-5, and Bulldogs coach Matt Potter had high praise for Lions keeper Alexander Flannery.
“Their goalie made some real fine saves,” Potter said. “Their defense played well.”

Golf
Rob Gibbons, a PGA pro at Arrowhead Golf Course in Mollala, Ore., prevailed in a four-person playoff to win the Pacific Northwest PGA Senior Players Championship on Wednesday at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla.
Gibbons shot a 3-under 69 and then birdied the first playoff hole to edge fellow pro Jeff Coston of Semiahmoo in Blaine and amateurs Mike Kloenne of Columbia Edgewater in Portland and Keith Crimp of Ellensburg Golf and Country Club.
Chris Repass of Walla Walla’s Veterans Memorial shot 71-69—140 to finish tied for third among pros at 4-under and tied for fifth overall. He partnered with Gregg Corn to finish tied for fourth in the team results.
▪ Idaho’s Kristin Strankman (Richland) tied for third with an even-par 216 over three days at the Big Sky Conference Women’s Golf Tournament in Boulder City, Nev.
The Vandals won the team title by one stroke over Sacramento State.
▪ Cole Lorenzo (Richland) finished 13th for Lewis-Clark State College, helping the Warriors rally from five shots back to start the day to win the Frontier Conference Championship in Tempe, Ariz. Lorenzo shot 78-77-81—236.
College Track & field
Connell grad Maci (Whitby) Bingham broke the Utah State record in the hammer throw last week with a winning mark of 204 feet, 6 inches at the Mark Faldmo Invitational in Logan, Utah.
Bingham ranks first in the Mountain West Conference and 13th nationally.
She also won the discus (152-5) and was second in the shot (46-2 3/4), and was named Utah State’s Student-Athlete of the Week.
