CBC women top Blue Mountain

The Columbia Basin College women defeated Blue Mountain 88-73 in their penultimate regular-season game Wednesday night in Pendleton.

Former Pasco High School standout Sierra Perez led the Hawks with 16 points, while Holly Ellison (Kamiakin) finished with 15.

CBC (17-11 overall, 9-4 NWAC East) remained in third place in the regional standings, a game ahead of Treasure Valley (17-10, 8-5). The Hawks finish the season Saturday at Walla Walla, while Treasure Valley wraps up at home against Blue Mountain. The top four teams in the NWAC East advance to next week’s regional crossovers.

Savannah Heugly led Blue Mountain (11-16, 5-8) with 27 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, but CBC used a strong second quarter to stretch its lead to 48-32 at halftime.

TREASURE VALLEY 70, WALLA WALLA 60: Tabitha Wellsandt (Kamiakin) scored 11 points and was one of four Walla Walla players in double figures, but the Warriors (16-10, 5-8) lost on the road to the Chukars.

Heather Waldemar led TVCC with 16 points, while Cheyan James had a team-high 14 points for Walla Walla.

Swimming

During the first day of the WAC Swimming & Diving Championships in Houston, Nick Connors (Richland) and Will Wertz (Hanford) teamed with Morgan Montemayor and Mitchell Crossen to clock the fifth-fastest time in Seattle University history in the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay.

Connors, Montemayor, Wertz and Crossen finished seventh with a time of 6 minutes, 47.11 seconds.
