Mid-Columbia roundup for Nov. 19: CBC volleyball team eliminated from NWAC tourney
Columbia Basin College lost both of its matches Thursday and was eliminated from the NWAC Volleyball Championship Tournament in Tacoma.
CBC, which entered the tournament as the East Region’s No. 4 seed, finished its season with an 11-29 record.
Meanwhile, Walla Walla Community College (28-18), the East No. 2, will play today after beating Clark College in its opener.
After losing to top-ranked Chemeketa 25-13, 25-17, 25-13, CBC dropped into a Thursday evening losers bracket match against Olympic. It was a much closer contest, but the Hawks fell 19-25, 25-15, 16-14.
Kelly Dyer (Kennewick High School) had 24 digs over the two matches, Kelly Wilson tallied 35 assists and 15 digs, and Mackenzie Monahan finished the tournament with 15 kills for CBC.
WWCC was dangerously close to a first-round loss, but the Warriors rallied to beat Clark College 22-25, 12-25, 25-19, 25-20, 20-18.
Amy Arnzen (Walla Walla Valley Academy) had 12 kills and 20 digs, while Dani Burke (Kamiakin) finished with 24 assists and 10 digs for the Warriors. Taylor Hall (Grandview) racked up 12 digs.
Walla Walla will face Shoreline, the North No. 1, at 12:30 p.m. today.

CHIAWANA 3, RICHLAND 1: The Bombers won the first scratch game by 32 pins, but the Riverhawks took Game 2 and the bakers at Go Bowl in Pasco.
Najeli Ruiz rolled a 158-159 for Chiawana, which improved to 2-1 in the Mid-Columbia Conference. Maricela Perez had the Riverhawks’ top game with a 178.
Rebecca Johnson led Richland (1-2) with her 199-150 day.
