CBC softball drops doubleheader to Spokane
Columbia Basin College dropped a pair of NWAACC East games to Spokane, putting the Hawks in a must-win situation next weekend to grab a playoff spot.
Sydnie Malloy went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs as Spokane won the opener 13-8.
In the night cap, Spokane led 1-0 through the top of the sixth, until CBC’s Bailey Walther’s solo home run in the bottom of the inning tied things up.
Shawnee Zink’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth helped the Big Foot take a 4-1 lead that held for the win.
Prosser graduate Gabby Meza threw all but two innings on the day and has thrown 29 innings over the last two weekends.
“Gabby threw well this week, she kept things close and she worked hard,” said CBC coach Adrian Ochoa.
The Hawks host Walla Walla on Saturday, and need at least a split to force a tie-breaker for the fourth seed to the NWAACC East tournament. A sweep would give the Hawks the fourth spot.
“We are one game behind Walla Walla,” Ochoa said. “There are lot of marbles riding on that.”
