NWAC hoops: Walla Walla men, women win titles over weekend
WALLA WALLA MEN WIN BIG IN BELLEVUE: Brandon Porter scored 25 points and Damen Thacker added 22 to lead the Warriors to a 95-82 win over Chemeketa on Sunday at Bellevue Community College in the championship game of the Bulldogs Classic.
The victory moved WWCC to 7-0 for the first time in coach Jeff Reinland’s 32 years at the helm.
In their two other games at the Bulldogs Classic, the Warriors downed Shoreline 94-82 on Friday and Highline 77-73 on Saturday.
WWCC WOMEN WIN RAIDERS HOLIDAY INVITE: Despite star guard Cierra Jo McKeown (Touchet) being held to three points, the Warriors were able to lock down on defense and get enough contributions on offense to top Clackamas 57-49 on Sunday in the championship game of the Raiders Holiday Invite at Pierce CC.
Teresa Acock (DeSales) led WWCC (7-1) — which lost the NWAC championship to Spokane last season — with 18 points. Adrianna Peralez added 17 points and Jade Skidmore nine with 10 rebounds and eight assists.
The Warriors also beat Lane 80-61 on Friday and Bellevue 70-69 on Saturday.
CBC WOMEN FINISH STRONG AT PIERCE INVITE: Alexis Castro had 22 points, eight assists, eight steals and nine rebounds as the Hawks beat the Lane Titans on Sunday in their final game of the Raiders Holiday Classic at Pierce CC.
After falling to Clackamas 70-56 on Friday, CBC (4-4) rallied to beat Peninsula 51-33 on Saturday. Castro was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts throughout the weekend.
