Mid-Columbia roundup for April 17: CBC 2-2 at softball crossover
Columbia Basin College went 2-2 at this weekend’s NWAC Softball Crossover Tournament at Kiwanis Park in Yakima.
Saturday, CBC fell 6-1 to Clark and then beat Olympic 7-5.
In Sunday’s games, the Hawks lost to Southwestern Oregon 6-1 and then rolled to a 14-5 win over Bellevue.
The Hawks (23-9 overall, 13-3 NWAC East) will resume regional play Friday at Yakima Valley (4-24, 2-14).
▪ Melanie Oord (Kamiakin) went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, including a three-run home run, as Linfield salvaged a split with a 19-0, five-inning win over host Whitworth.
Oord was 1-for-2 in the first game, a 9-5 Whitworth win.
Whitworth clinched its second consecutive Northwest Conference regular-season title and will host next week’s NWC tournament as the No. 1 seed. Linfield will be the No. 3 seed.
Prep softball
COLTON 18-19, LIBERTY CHRISTIAN 14-6: Bella Loera went 6-for-8 on the day, but the host Patriots lost to the Wildcats in a Southeast 1B doubleheader Saturday.
Katie Steele drove in six RBIs for Liberty Christian, which was outhit 33-23 in the doubleheader.

College baseball
Anthony Gosline’s RBI single in the 11th inning led Columbia Basin College to a 3-2 win over host Walla Walla and an NWAC East sweep of the Warriors on Saturday.
Nick Crawford pitched the final three innings for CBC, allowing no hits or runs.
In Game 1, Spencer Bennion (Chiawana) went 3-for-5 with a double and scored two runs in CBC’s 4-1 victory. Tanner Simpson pitched all nine innings for CBC, walking three and striking out six.
CBC (20-8 overall, 7-5 NWAC East) is tied with Big Bend and Treasure Valley for second place in the region behind Yakima Valley (21-9, 11-1). Walla Walla is fifth at 16-9, 6-6.

Shane Sandlin (Hanford) and Caleb Hughes beat Puget Sound’s Chet Selis and Andrew Struzenberg 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, helping host Whitworth win Sunday’s Northwest Conference match 9-0.
Whitworth will enter the NWC tournament as the No. 4 seed and will face top-seeded Whitman on Friday.
