College sports update for Sept. 18

CAL STATE EAST BAY: Transfer Kylie Fraga (Southridge) had 33 assists in a 3-1 volleyball loss to Cal Baptist on Sept. 4. Then she had 25 assists and seven digs in a 3-0 loss to Dominican later that day.

CARROLL COLLEGE: Kristyn Bohlander (Kamiakin) scored a goal, but it wasn’t enough as the women’s soccer team lost 3-2 in overtime to MSU-Billings on Sept. 3. ... Crystal Schmidt (Hermiston) had four kills and three blocks in the volleyball team’s 3-0 loss to Biola of California on Sept. 4. In a 3-0 loss to Westmont, Calif., later in the day, Schmidt had a team-high eight kills.

EOU: Quarterback Zach Bartlow (Waitsburg-Prescott) passed for 146 yards and rushed for 94 in a 40-28 football loss to College of Idaho on Aug. 29. Linebacker Kris Welch (River View) had three tackles with a quarterback sack. ... In a 41-20 loss to Sacramento State on Sept. 5, Bartlow had 163 yards passing and 29 yards rushing. Running back Alonzo Mendoza (River View) rushed for 30 yards, and receiver Brenden Kelly (Southridge) caught two passes for 24 yards and a touchdown. Mendoza also averaged 59 yards over four kickoff returns.

EWU: Alexis Stephenson (Chiawana) assisted on a goal in the final minute as the women’s soccer team tied CS Bakersfield 1-1 on Aug. 28.

EVERGREEN STATE: Jorden Porter (Walla Walla CC) had 13 kills and 10 digs to help the volleyball team beat Warner Pacific 3-2 on Sept. 5.

GONZAGA UNIVERSITY: Lauren Joseph (Richland) had 18 assists as the volleyball team beat Wyoming 3-0 on Sept. 4.

JUDSON UNIVERSITY: Grace Smith (Richland) had six kills to help lead the volleyball team over Indiana-Northwest 3-0 on Sept. 1.
