7 CBC soccer players snapped up by other 4-year colleges after winning season

CBC’s women’s 2024 soccer team finished in the NWAC Final Four last fall, and the Hawks had an 11-2-3 overall record.

It was a good team, and other college coaches noticed. That’s why seven players from that squad are moving on to the four-year level.

Sophomore forward Ava Suarez (Chiawana), who led the Hawks with 4 goals and 5 assists last season and was a first-team East Region all-star, is now playing at Seattle Pacific University

Also moving up are midfielder Julissa Caceres (Caldwell, Idaho) to Hope International in California; forward Madeline Dorendorf (Pasco) is going to Evergreen State University in Lacey; defender Taryn Demers (Clarkston) will play at Northwest University in Kirkland; and forward Kiarra Scheib (Wenatchee) will play at Midland University in Nebraska.

In addition, Oregon Institute of Technology grabbed two Hawks — defender Shelby Geiger (Twin Falls, Idaho) and midfielder Olivia Mendoza (Chiawana). Mendoza was an East Region first-team selection last season.

College volleyball

Richland High grad Ryan White spent her first three seasons of college eligibility playing for the Oregon State University volleyball team.

This past offseason, White transferred to the University of Kansas.

The Jayhawks are 1-2 to start the season, beating Vanderbilt 3-2, then losing 3-2 in matches against Penn State and Wisconsin.

White has led KU in digs each match. The senior had 14 digs and added 5 assists in the win over Vandy.

In the loss to Penn State, she had 19 digs, and in the loss to Wisconsin, White had 20 digs.

  • The Columbia Basin College volleyball team is expected to have another strong season, judging by the first Northwest Athletic Conference coaches poll that recently came out.

The Hawks, who will host the Final 8 teams in the championship tournament in November, are ranked No. 5 in the first poll.

Defending champion Linn-Benton is once again ranked No. 1, while Yakima Valley (fourth) and Treasure Valley (sixth) are also in the top 10.

Colby Watilo, a Walla Walla High School graduate, recently announced he was the new head baseball coach Walla Walla Community College.

Watilo spent this past summer managing the Walla Walla Sweets West Coast League summer baseball program.

He also has been an assistant coach at Whitman College.

Kamiakin junior wide receiver-defensive back Micheal Kori has already received offers from colleges.

Kori has offers from Oregon State, Idaho and UNLV. There will be more.

College football

Linebacker Myles Mayovsky (Kennewick) was one of the top defenders for Eastern Washington University’s football team in the Eagles’ 31-21 loss to Incarnate Word in the Aug. 30 season opener in San Antonio.

Mayovsky, a redshirt junior, had 8 tackles (one for loss) and a pass breakup for EWU.

Defensive tackle Isaiah Perez (Othello) added 6 tackles and blocked a pass for Eastern, now 0-1.
