Former Richland runner Williams 30th at NCAA men’s cross country meet
Washington State’s Michael Williams (Richland) finished 30th at the NCAA Division I Men’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.
Williams covered the 10-kilometer course in 30 minutes, 16.6 seconds. He earned All-America status after placing in the top 40.
Meanwhile, the Cougars’ 14th-place team finish was their best since taking seventh in 1984.
Former Kamiakin standout Anthoney Armstrong was 142nd (31:11.1) for Oklahoma State, which was 12th among teams. Northern Arizona won the team title.
On the women’s side, Baylor’s Lindsey Bradley (Richland) finished the 6K race in 175th place (21:13.8). The Bears were 27th, and Oregon claimed the team championship.
▪ Michelle Fletcher (Kamiakin) finished 35th to help the Northwest Christian women take second at the NAIA National Championship in Elsah, Ill.
Fletcher ran the 5K race in 18:00.11 for the Beacons, who scored 135 points to winner British Columbia’s 90.
