Washington State drops first 2 games
Trek Stemp (Kennewick) went 1-for-4 in Washington State’s 10-1 loss to Texas State on Saturday in the second game of the Cougars’ season-opening series in San Marcos, Texas.
WSU (0-2) gave up six runs in the second inning and never got the offense on track, getting just six hits.
Stemp, hitting leadoff and playing in center field, went 1-for-3 in a 6-2 loss to the Bobcats on Friday. The redshirt junior drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Gonzaga
Jarod Gonzales (Kennewick) drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single, and Tyler Frost drove in four runs as the Bulldogs beat Grand Canyon 21-9 for a split of their Saturday doubleheader.
Gonzaga (1-2) lost the second game 3-0, limited to just three hits. The Zags lost their opener 7-1 on Friday.
Washington
Baylor scored seven runs with two out in the sixth inning, rallying past the Huskies 9-5 on Saturday.
On Friday, Noah Bremer threw six solid innings on the mound, and the Huskies scored all of their runs with two outs in a 7-2 win.
Oregon State
Logan Ice’s pinch-hit, two-run single highlighted OSU’s six-run sixth inning, but a comeback from a nine-run deficit after five innings came up short in a 12-9 loss to Utah Valley on Saturday.
On Friday, Nick Madrigal went 4-for-4 in his collegiate debut, driving in a pair of runs in a 7-6 win over Ball State.
