Hayley Hodgins sets EWU scoring record
Hayley Hodgins became Eastern Washington University’s all-time leading scorer Saturday afternoon, pouring in 23 points to lead the Eagles to a 70-57 win over Portland State.
The senior from Chiawana High needed six points coming into the game to reach the mark of Brenda Souther (1983-87). Her 1,751 career points ranks ninth all-time in the Big Sky Conference.
“It’s deserved, and it couldn’t happen to a more special person,” EWU coach Wendy Schuller said.
“Points are wonderful,” Schuller added, “but the mentality and mindset of being a winner and bringing that to the table is what Hayley has brought to our program. It’s been tremendous for us ... to have a leader like her.”
Sophomore sister Delaney Hodgins added 14 points, six rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks.
